San Francisco, CA: More than 300 Monsanto RoundUp lawsuits have been consolidated into multidistrict litigation in the US District Court for the Northern District of California . Expert testimony about whether glyphosate, the main ingredient in RoundUp, is carcinogenic will begin in early March.

Fresno, CA: The manufacturer of Monsanto Roundup is not taking any assertion, accurate or otherwise that Roundup causes cancer, lying down. To that end, Monsanto Co. has joined forces with other agricultural industry groups in a lawsuit aimed squarely at the State of California and the identification by the California Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment (OEHHA) that a key ingredient in Roundup is known to cause cancer.

San Francisco, CA: With Monsanto Roundup lawsuits expected to go to trial next year, defendant Monsanto Co. has continued to push back at any suggestion or allegation that Monsanto Roundup causes cancer, and earlier this month attempted to have a block of Roundup lawsuits tossed on grounds that expert testimony proposed by the plaintiffs fails the Daubert Standard for admissible evidence.

San Francisco, CA: Over 250 Monsanto Roundup lawsuits are pending in U.S. District Court in San Francisco, and about 1,100 complaints filed in state courts, all filed by people claiming that they, or their loved ones, developed non-Hodgkin lymphoma and that Monsanto covered up the risks. And court documents do indeed indicate a Monsanto cover-up.

Madison, WI: The basket of Monsanto Roundup lawsuits has grown, with another class action launched June 20 of this year in Wisconsin (Blitz et al. v. Monsanto Company et al., Case No. 3:17-cv-00473, United States District Court, Western District of Wisconsin). In this most recent claim, plaintiffs from Wisconsin, Illinois, California, New York, New Jersey and Florida assert that the product is marketed in a false and misleading manner.

Chicago, IL: Various issues that have come to the fore in recent months appear to be taking some of the focus away from Monsanto Roundup lawsuits for the time being, although the respite is likely only to be temporary. Indeed, increased crosstalk focused on the pending merger between Monsanto and Bayer AG of Germany and recent lawsuits against Monsanto over employment practices does not venture far from concerns over glyphosate and continuing fears over associations with cancer.

St. Louis, MO A group of seven farmers are the lead plaintiffs in a class action lawsuit that claims “corporate greed” and “a rush to market” by some of the world’s biggest makers and promoters of agricultural chemicals caused farm crops to wither and die costing farm operators millions of dollars in lost revenue and possibly forcing them to switch all their seed stock to herbicide resistant Monsanto seed in the coming years whether they want to or not.

Fresno, CA: Monsanto has been trying very hard to keep the primary ingredient in Monsanto Roundup off a list of cancer-causing chemicals maintained by the state of California. Monsanto maintains that glyphosate, the key ingredient to its popular weed killer, is perfectly safe and does not cause cancer, a fact disputed by the International Agency for Research on Cancer. However, Monsanto Roundup causes cancer will indeed, migrate to a list maintained by the Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment after the California Supreme Court upheld a lower court ruling.
