Sleepless on the Farm

It has been a long time since Tim Wilson and his wife got to sleep in. Every morning around 4am the neighbor's two dozen or so roosters—just outside their bedroom window—give them a wake-up call. The rooster crows have turned into a frustrating farm nuisance.

Zearing, IA "Two nights last summer, I had to sleep in my car because of the stink," says Don Peck of Zearing, Iowa. "The stink" that Mr. Peck refers to is the odor from a livestock truck wash at a factory farm several miles from his home.

Scientists: Factory Farm Neighbors Face Health Risks

Des Moines, IA Several recent studies have shown that residents who live within several miles of a factory farm can suffer significant health consequences including asthma, skin rashes, headaches and infections that are transmitted from animals to human beings.
