Three Dead, One Missing in Military Training Jet Crash

. By
Morganton, GAAt least three people were killed and a fourth is missing after a T-39N military training jet crashed and burned yesterday in a north Georgia forest. The plane crash set about 10 acres of woodlands ablaze after the jet went down just after 4:30 pm EST on April 12.

span itemprop="image" itemscope itemtype="https://schema.org/ImageObject" style="display:block">CNN reports there were four people on the plane, which was a military version of the twin-engine Saberliner executive aircraft manufactured by Rockwell. Three bodies had been recovered. The fourth person on board the jet was not accounted for as of this morning.

Reports suggest the T-39N originated at Pensacola Naval Station in Florida, about 400 miles south of where it went down, just north of Morganton, Georgia—about 80 miles north of Atlanta.

Fannin County Sheriff's Major Keith Bosen told CNN, "We got reports that it was flying pretty low." The plane had flown north-northeast over the nearby town of Blue Ridge before it went down about 4:40 pm. "We have about a 10 to 15-acre fire still working at this time," Bosen said.

A spokesperson for the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), Kathleen Bergen, told CNN there were no injuries of anyone on the ground.

The plane crash is still under investigation.
