Three people were killed in a plane crash in California, including the 91-year-old founder of an East Palo Alto steel company, Robert Borrmann, of RE Borrmann's Steel Co. The other two people have been identified as the pilot and the pilot's girlfriend.

The twin engine Beech 65 Queen Air small plane crashed shortly after take off from San Carlos airport, at around 11:50 am, Friday morning. The plane went down in a lagoon at quite a steep angle.

The body of the female passenger was pulled from the lagoon shortly after the crash, Dave Pucci, a battalion chief with the Redwood City Fire Department told the San Francisco Gate. He said she appeared to be in her 40s.

After several hours of searching in the murky waters, members of a diving team found the bodies of the two men among the plane's wreckage. However, they have not been removed from the aircraft, and accident scene remains intact as the National Transportation Safety Board will investigate the crash.

Herb Foreman, a friend of Borrmann's for over 40 years, and a former pilot, witnessed the crash. He told the SF Gate, "The engine was just rattling something terrible. We watched it dive straight in. I knew they were all dead because they were probably close to 800 feet (in altitude) when it stalled. I was sick to my stomach."
