Lowe's Offers $100,000 to Some Victims of Chinese Drywall

Home improvement retailer Lowe's has created a new offer for customers adversely affected by inferior Chinese drywall purchased from the store, according to United Press International.

The new offer gives $100,000 to customers with proof of purchase who sustained more than $4,500 in medical bills or home damages as a result of Chinese drywall obtained from Lowe's.

The offer supplements lower, previously-made offers. Customers with no proof of purchase who claim to have been affected by drywall will be given a $50 gift card, while customers with a proof of purchase but no evidence of negative effects from the drywall are offered a $250 gift card. Customers who can prove that they sustained $2,000 worth of damage and also provide proof of purchase will receive $4,500.

An attorney for a Florida man who qualifies for the new offer told the news source that he and others like him "are just trying to protect consumers' needs," as previous offers did not provide ample compensation to fix any home damage caused by the defective Chinese drywall.

The offer now proceeds to the court, where it must receive approval before compensation can be paid to victims of Chinese drywall damage. The court is expected to hear arguments on the offer in December.
