Northrop Grumman

Tempe, AZ: (Jul-18-07) The United States Justice Department brought charges against Northrop Grumman, alleging that the Tempe company did not properly test certain tubes used by the US military in night vision goggles and sniper scopes. An investigation revealed that the company displayed a lax management review of testing systems at Northrop and and its predecessor Litton Industries Inc.'s Tempe facility. The tests spanned from January 2000 to June 2002. Officials claimed that they found no safety impact because of deficient testing protocols. The night vision goggles and sniper scopes are used by soldiers in Afghanistan and Iraq. The federal investigation originated when Northrop Grumman disclosed its concerns to Department of Defense Inspector General's under its Voluntary Disclosure Program. In a settlement reached, Northrop Grumman agreed to pay the United States $8 million to resolve allegations. [AZ CENTRAL: GEAR TESTING]
