UMWA Combined Benefit Fund

Colorado Springs, CO: (Apr-02-07) Westmoreland Coal Company filed charges against UMWA Combined Benefit Fund over reimbursement of approximately $5.8 million in past overpayments to the fund for retiree medical benefits plus interest. In a settlement reached between the two parties, Westmoreland Coal Company will receive approximately $6.4 million in total, including accrued interest. Half of the amount has been recovered while the rest will be paid when the UMWA Combined Benefit Fund receives transfers of federal funds provided for under legislation that was enacted in December 2006.
