Los Angeles, CA: (Feb-21-07) The Federal Trade commission booked Consumerinfo.com, doing business as Experian Consumer Direct, on employing deceptive advertising practices. According to the FTC, Consumerinfo.com did not honor its word when it advertised "free credit reports" to consumers but failed to adequately disclose that those who signed up would be automatically enrolled in a credit-monitoring program and charged $79.95. The suit was settled when Consumerinfo.com agreed to pay a $950,000 fine to the FTC as well as another $300,000 for failing to correct its policies. [INTERNET NEWS: INTERNET CREDIT FRAUD]
