AT&T

Minnesota consumers and the state treasury filed a lawsuit against the telecommunications company for improper long distance charges. AT&T agreed to a settlement worth up to $1.3 million by reimbursing $308,000 in improper long distance charges and providing free long distance calling cards to 26,000 people affected by the overcharges. AT&T will also make a $200,000 payment to the state in connection with the litigation. (Jun-07-05)

If you have an international calling plan with AT&T a call is 11 cents per minute to Brazil, but if you don't it's $5.33 per minute, in other words, a $19.00 call is $437.00 for the same call, over the same network. AT&T failed to give me an international calling plan after I asked for one. Then charged me $1000 and will not readjust the charges. There is no justification for this kind of discrepancy in rates between a free plan and non-rate plan charges.
