Rawlings Sportings Goods Company and K2 Inc.
Matrix Group Limited, Inc. had an exclusive license with Rawlings since 1994 to manufacture and sell baseball/softball and other sports equipment bags to retailers through the Rawlings sales. In March, 2003 K2 purchased Rawlings and in September, 2003, K2 purchased Worth, Inc., which also sold baseball/softball and other sports equipment bags. Matrix sued Rawlings for breach of contract and K2, Inc. for tortious interference with business relations. The jury found for Matrix and awarded Matrix $4,096,312.00 for lost profits for breach of contract for 10 years, $2,053,688.00 for losses beyond 10 years for breach of contract and awarded Matrix $2,500,000.00 against K2 for tortious interference with business relations.
