North Myrtle Beach, SCTwo people from the New England area were killed recently in a single-engine plane crash at the Briarcliffe RV Resort in South Carolina, The Associated Press reports.
The accident, which occurred in the middle of the day, reportedly killed the pilot from Massachusetts and a New Hampshire woman who was in a trailer on the ground, the news source said.
"It was so low, we knew something desperate was going to happen," said 74-year-old Doreen Boorman of Fredericton, New Brunswick, Canada. Boorman is one of thousands of "snowbirds" who migrate to the Carolina coast each year in order to escape Northern winters, according to the news provider.
The pilot was identified as 62-year-old Kenneth Thode from Plymouth, Massachusetts, and the woman on the ground was 70-year-old Eva Sullivan of Sunapee, New Hampshire.
Investigators from the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) are expected to investigate the scene of the accident for a number of days, according to the news source.
Through the month of November, there were 1,395 civilian plane accidents in 2010, according to the NTSB.
