PDC Officers Arrested over Violations of Theft of Overtime Pay in California

. By Charles Benson

The commander of the Porterville Development Center (PDC) and his lieutenant were arrested this week under allegations that they embezzled overtime pay in California.

Commander Jeff Lewis Bradley was found to be complicit in fraudulent overtime claims by lieutenant Scott Anthony Gardner, allowing the lieutenant to earn thousands of dollars for time he did not actually work.

After an 18-month investigation, local police submitted their findings to the Grand Jury, which handed down felony indictments against the officers. The officers are being held in jail in lieu of a $60,000 bail, according to the Porterville Recorder.

The PDC, which oversees and polices developmental centers across California, was mandated by Governor Schwarzenegger to take self-directed furlough days in an effort to ease the state's struggling economy.

John Sawyer, the executive director of the PDC, had discovered in August that overtime hours within the agency had increased substantially, noting a growth of nearly 20 percent or $45,000 in their monthly budget.
