Former Miami Dolphin Wins Medical Malpractice Lawsuit

. By
Miami, FLO.J. McDuffie, a former star receiver with the Miami Dolphins, has won a medical malpractice lawsuit of more than $11 million against the football team's former team doctor, John Uribe.

span itemprop="image" itemscope itemtype="" style="display:block">As a first round draft pick in 1993, McDuffie went on to have a storied career. In the 1998 season the receiver led the NFL in receptions with 90 catches for 1050 yards and seven touchdowns. The following year, McDuffie sustained a serious injury to his big toe that would nag him over the next several years.

McDuffie accused Uribe of malpractice in the treatment of his injury. The player's lawyers detailed an MRI scan that revealed severe ligament damage Dr. Uribe had claimed was inconclusive. Over the next few months, McDuffie's performance began to deteriorate, capping off with a disappointing season in 2000 during which the star receiver made just 14 catches for 143 yards in nine games. He was released from the Dolphins later that year.

McDuffie has had two surgeries to repair the afflicted ligament since his retirement.
