Fire Risk Prompts Ford Recall

Defective Cruise Control Switch Can Cause Fire

Ford is recalling some Lincoln and Mercury SUVs, pick-ups, vans and cars that have defective cruise control switches. The defective switches could lead to fire at any time, even while the vehicle is turned off, according to officials a the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

The NHTSA issued a recall notice in February about this, however of the 12 million vehicles affected, 5 million remain on the road. An agency spokesperson said that the NHTSA has received nearly 60 complaints of fires that occurred in the affected vehicles. The defect poses a serious risk of personal injury and property damage.
