Whistleblower attacks hospital for violating Florida labor law

. By
Naples, FLA children's hospital is the subject of Florida labor law arbitration, with a former respiratory therapist claiming that she was wrongfully terminated after speaking out about mislabeled hospital equipment.

span itemprop="image" itemscope itemtype="https://schema.org/ImageObject" style="display:block">Kristina Laney, a 22-year veteran of the Lee Memorial hospital system, alleges that warning her superiors of mislabeled tracheal tubes in the neonatal intensive care unit directly led to her ejection. Laney also charges that she was denied an equitable grievance process assured all public employees by Florida state Labor laws.

"Lee Memorial operates as if (they are) employees at will and that is not how public employment works. You can't be fired without due process," claims Laney's attorney William Amlong in a statement to the Naples News. "Obviously there have been terminations from that place. There isn't a system in place that provides them with their constitutionally required due process."

A release from Lee Memorial states that Laney was released from duty due to insubordination, poor judgment, hostilities with co-workers and ignoring department policies regarding patient safety.

The case has grown to include other employees that were denied their grievance processes over the past four years and seeks to reinstate them.
