Some flu and denture cream zinc poisoning symptoms are the same

. By
Dallas TXWith the flu season in full swing and the prevalence of H1N1 rising in the media, it may be safe to say the general public is being well-educated on certain symptoms. However, older Americans who use Fixodent denture adhesive for their false teeth may want to make sure they are not suffering from zinc poisoning.

Fixodent denture cream has been associated with the condition, which has symptoms such as fever and chills. These symptoms are also associated with the common flu and H1N1.

There are various lawsuits that have been filed around the country claiming that people have suffered from denture adhesive zinc poisoning due to Fixodent's product.

According to ABC News, the FDA does not require manufacturers to list the amount of zinc in their product.

As a precaution, Dr. Jaya Trivedi, an associate professor at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, told the news provider people with poorly fitting dentures should see a professional instead of using denture cream.

"Go and see your dentist, because we don't want them to be using large amounts of denture cream to keep the dentures in place," Trivedi said.
