Mirena User Suffers Miscarriage, Now Filing Mirena Lawsuit

. By
Glen, MSWhen Katie found out she was pregnant, she had her Mirena intrauterine device removed. Sadly, she miscarried. Katie got pregnant about a year later but had an ectopic pregnancy. Her gynecologist blames Mirena.

Katie, age 23 and mother of two (ages four and six), recently got remarried. She and her second husband were looking forward to having kids of their own.

“Now I have to explain to my kids that they can’t have any more brothers or sisters,” says Katie, crying. “I was 16 years old when I had my first child; they are my life, my pride and joy. Being only 23 and not being able to have any more kids breaks my heart.”

When Katie had the Mirena IUD implanted after she gave birth to her second (and last) child in early 2009, her doctor said it was safe and there were no Mirena side effects. But Mirena was not only ineffective as a method of birth control, it has also ruined the possibility of Katie having any more kids.

In April 2010, after her miscarriage, she had the Mirena removed. “I had a miscarriage because the baby didn’t form and when I got pregnant again, in late 2011, it was ruled an ectopic pregnancy,” Katie says. “My gynecologist explained to me that I can produce the hormone to get pregnant but I cannot hold the baby. I had to have a D&C.

“I know the Mirena is to blame and my gynecologist told me as much. I was pissed when he told me. I asked him how a device that causes infertility can be on the market ??" it is unbelievable that Bayer is allowed to sell this. He gave me a lot of paperwork on Mirena birth control side effects, which I brought home. My husband and I read about Mirena uterine perforation; how Mirena causes infertility, miscarriages, cysts on ovaries and more.

"I am so mad because I lost two babies. After the miscarriage I had a lot of blood work to determine whether or not I was able to carry again and what caused the miscarriage. I blame my doctor to some extent but I wasn’t supposed to get pregnant with this device. It is guaranteed for five years but I got pregnant after having it for just one year.

"Thankfully I have a supportive husband. We thought about adopting ??" he doesn’t have any kids so it is really hard on him. This Mirena has really affected our lives.”

Katie was told by a local attorney that she only has a case if the Mirena device perforates a body organ, causes PID (pelvic inflammatory disease) or if it has to be surgically removed. She is currently seeking a Mirena attorney in another state. A quick Google search shows that a lot of women who may be infertile due to Mirena are also asking if they have a claim against Bayer.

Attorneys are currently investigating Mirena complaints and potential lawsuits to determine whether Bayer, the maker of Mirena IUD, used deceptive tactics to market its device. Katie is not alone. Many women who became pregnant while using Mirena have suffered miscarriages and could be facing infertility.

I'm so sorry for your guys lose and the pain and heartache that comes with that my heart goes out to you. I had the mirena after my third son. Then I had it in for a little over six years, I know it's horriable I waited so long. The first few months I had bleeding and cramps. My partner felt my strings twice. After that I had no problems with the mirena. Rarely had a period and when I did just a couple days of spotting. Cramps once in awhile but not often. I had the mirena removed and within three months I was pregnant with my fourth son. I had a healthy pregnancy, carried to 38 weeks. Now I'm going in to get a second mirena. Cuz the pill and the shot did not work for me. I was miserable on both and gained tons of weight, was moody, and my period was heavier. But reading your post makes me a little worried about getting a second mirena. Cuz I have a new husband and my fourth son is his first, so we're not sure if we're done having children. There's a good chance in a couple of years we will want to have one more child before we call it good. My body doesn't tolerate the hormones that are in the pill or the deposhot so what other options would you recommend? Cuz the mirena has been the best suit for me so far. My dr says it's the best birth control. I have had friends have to have theirs removed due to compilations. So you in put on another type of birth control would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

I had the Mirena put in after the birth of my son in February of 2009. I had it removed a few years later because I was not feeling like my normal self. My husband and I have started trying to have children again and I am going on my 3rd miscarriage. I am really starting to worry that I might never have another baby. Has anyone had success suing this company or proving that this is the root to the cause?

After 5 healthy pregnancies and NO miscarriages I have now had 3 consecutive miscarriages. I really believe that the Mirena IUD is the cause of this, I believe that it had seriously messed with my hormones and the lining of my uterus. Has anyone found a solution to correct this problem? I'm feeling really angry as I would love another child.

My husband and i have 4 beautiful kids together.I never had any miscarriages until after i had the mirena.I had my 4th child July 2nd 2009 and had the mirena put in August 2009.I had so many complications with it so I decided to have it removed September 2010.We found out i was pregnant in August 2011 and went in for ultrasound but they could not find baby's heartbeat.I had to have a d & c.We were devastated. We found out i was pregnant again and I had another miscarriage and delivered our baby at home May 2013 at 17 weeks. My 3rd miscarriage was March 2015 and my 4th was just Friday November 13,2015.I know it's from the mirena and i tried filing a lawsuit but they say i don't have a case. The dr that put the mirena in me it was his first time ever doing one(he had another dr assisting him)snd he hurt me so bad. When i went to get up off the table there was so much blood on the floor from me i slipped in my own blood.I bled for a year straight that's one of the reasons i got it taken out. When the dr went to take it out(which he tried to convince me to keep it in saying i already had 4 kids i didn't need anymore)he couldn't find it.I was in so much pain.He tried to find it for about 45 minutes. He told me they would probably have to schedule me for an ultrasound to see if they could find it and i would probably have to have it surgically removed. He decided to check again to see if he could find it and after about 10 minutes he said he was able to find it and take it out.I can't go through losing anymore babies. It's too devastating.I'm ready to tell my obgyn to go ahead and do a hysterectomy on me and it's not fair.I was told how good the mirena was by my dr and I even asked her if there was any known side effects or problems with pregnancy and she told me no.

My husband and I were thrilled when we found out we were pregnant about a month after my first period following the removal of my Mirena. I started to spot lightly at 6 weeks which prompted my doctor to check hCG and progesterone levels. Both were low though the hCG rose slowly. I started taking progesterone pills. I was thrilled when we did an ultrasound at 7 weeks only to discover my baby had a heartbeat. Fast forward to two weeks later....no heartbeat on the 2nd ultrasound. My baby died a few days after the first ultrasound and just a few days after I started hormone therapy. I passed my baby at what would have been 10 weeks.

Previous to this experience I had two totally normal healthy pregnancies with no low progesterone issues. I know miscarriages happen frequently, but I can't help but point my fingers at the fact that my progesterone was so low. And low progesterone was never an issue for me until after I had the Mirena IUD. I'm worried now that I will ever be able to carry a baby full term.

I had my first healthy baby in may 2008. I had the Mirena put in a 2009.a year later i decided to remove it after i experienced sharp pain on my side. I got pregnant a year after that in 2011 and miscarried after hearing its heart beat at 8 weeks. In 2013 i got pregnant again only to miscarry a twin pregnancy at 6 weeks. I now blame the mirena because i had no issues with my first pregnancy. Im so angry that the drs never truly explained the side effects of this horrible device. I cant believe this thing is still out there eventually ruining womans lives and devastating families. Shame on them

I am a proud mother of 5 beautiful children and decided to get mirena in Nov 2009. I had it for almost 6 years until my husband and I decided we wanted to try for our 6th child. I never had complications or serious side effects when my mirena was in. 7 months after removal, Sept. 2014, we had a positive pg test and were unbelievably excited. But misscarried only a week later, it was devastating. It has now been almost a year after my miscarriage and I haven't gotten pregnant since. Every month its disappointment and heart break. My periods still aren't regular, even though I was completely regular and fertile before mirena. I'm afraid, even though the iud never moved, embedded, or expelled, that I won't be able to conceive again. No one should gamble with their fertility by getting the mirena. It needs to be pulled off the market and Bayer should be punished for what they've done to thousands, if not more, of women. I pray eventually I'll get my miracle. Mirena ruined my life.

I have also had several.miscarriages since having my Mirena removed. I know Mirena is to blame. I'd never miscarried before having it and had two healthy babies. Now I can't even stay pregant for longer than a few weeks.

I had mirena put in after my son was born in 2009. I had it removed June of 2014 at the 5 year mark, and I now regret ever having it. In November 2014 we found out we were expecting... I did not make it to the first OBGYN appointment, as we miscarried at 7 weeks right at the end of Nobember. We again found out we were expecting in March of 2015. I had multiple books draws and tests to ensure everything would be ok this time. My levels, my everything were great until my ultrasound at 8 weeks. The baby was not showing up, my levels had stopped doubling, and I was told I would miscarry. We then miscarried at 9 weeks. I was told how safe mirena was, that this was the right choice, it was not. I had issues having the mirena removed as it had begun to fuse to the wall of my uterus, and I know truly believe this horrible device has caused all the heartache I have endoured the past 6 months.

I had the IUD put in after I delivered my first healthy baby in 2004 then had it taken out in 2005 so we could try for our 2nd baby we got pregnant very quickly and delivered another healthy baby. After my second child was born I had the IUD put back in from 2006-2013 after a missed period I found out I was 6 weeks pregnant. Went to the doctor to have the IUD removed and the Doctor informed me the IUD had come out of my Uterus and was in my cervix he removed the IUD at 6 weeks. We went in to find out the gender of our baby on Dec. 21, 2013 at 16weeks and found out our little boy no longer had a heartbeat. I was induced into labor and delivered my angel on Dec. 22, 2013. We got pregnant again very quickly and I found at On May 13, 2014 that our baby had lost its heartbeat at 12 weeks. I was scheduled for a DNC. At this point I was not looking to get pregnant again didn't think I could handle anymore losses with my 2 older sons were so super excited to have a sibling and I just could break there little hearts again. Then in November 2014 6 months after the loss of our 2nd baby we found out we were expecting again. My doctor sent me to see a MFM after extensive blood work, sonograms, hormone levels checked he released me back to my OB saying all looked good. I went in for a OB checkup on January 22, 2015 and my doctor was unable to locate a heartbeat. I was sent to radiology at the hospital for another sono and still no heartbeat was then admitted and induced into labor and after 12 hours of labor on January 23, 2015 at almost 17 weeks my little angel Bentley was delivered. Non of the babies had any chromosome issues, placinta was heathy and all my labs were clear. My hormone levels were going up like they should. I went and had a HSG test done 2 weeks ago and it was also normal. The doctors are unable to determine a cause and I am curious to know if the IUD had anything to do with it. I just don't understand how I can have 2 completely normal pregnancies and then 3 back to back losses. I would love to have another baby but we are so scared of going through another loss.

I had the mirena for 7 years 5 years then two years the second time my last child was born in 2005 decided to have one more and have had three miscarriages im beginning to think that the mirena takes away all of the hormones the body need to help have a healthy pregnancy that's just my opinion

I have two kids both born pre Mirena. I got off after 5years May 2014. Got pregnant in August. Miscarried in October. I was 7 weeks. The miscarriage was due to no heartbeat. Found out I was pregnant again February 2015. I am now experiencing the same symptoms with the miscarriage I just had. I go to the doctor tomorrow. At first I didn't consider the Mirena as a cause until my mom mentioned it. She said "you had no issues with pregnancies. Since that iud you keep miscarring and having issues". Of course I began to google and came across this. A lot of us have commonalities in our responses. I was never warned about these side effects from my healthcare provider. This has been devastating to me, my husband and kids. Something should be done. If Mirena is indeed the cause we should definitely be compensated and it should be banned. Though nothing will reverse the damage that has been done it's a start. I am 29 and want another healthy pregnancy and baby. Prayerfully this will happen. Blessings to you all.

I had my mirena for a long time I actually had two from 2004-2008 and 2009-2014 and it was removed on 11/24/14. I also had a normal period on 12/11/15. Confirmed I was preggo Jan 5, 2015. I got confirmation on 2/18/15 that my baby has no heartbeat and stopped progressing at 6wks 4days and I am 10 weeks today. I follow-up with my OB tomorrow to discuss my options. This is so heart-breaking. I will NEVER get another IUD.

I had my mirena removed on 11-24-14 found out I was pregnant a few weeks after. I found out 4 days ago the baby no longer has a heart beat and stopped growing. Went to the er last friday and they confirmed fetal demise aka stillbirth. I have to carry the baby until 2-13-15 when they will either induce or do a d&c. We will thankfully be able to have our baby, Riley Cremated and do funeral arrangements.

Well I'm so glad I came across this, as I to am having so many issues after having my Mirena in for 5 years after removing it April 2014 to start trying for another baby I was having extremely heavy periods and clothing so my Dr put me on the pill to level out my hormones it continued the same way so we did an ultrasound she found an abnormal fibroid which was NOT there before the IUD, she said it could be the cause she put me on a heavier pill but still did not help my periods and clotting I haven't been using any form of bith control since October 2014 but no luck in pregnancy my Dr said if it happens at all not to get excited or tell people until I'm past 21WeEKS that's half your pregnancy something needs to be done...sending love you all of you woman stay strong

I had 2 miscarriages after having mirena removed but was able to conceive and have two healthy children a year later. My doctor would not acknowledge a link between the two. But I've always suspected that it was to blame

I had the iud too. It's called paraguard. I only had the device for a year. When I found out I was pregnant. Thank God I was only a month pregnant when I did the pregnancy test. the doctors removed the iud as soon as they did the ultrasound. I was lucky and had a normal pregnancy. There was a 50 percent change of having a miscarriage. Thank God she was healthy and weight 8.5 lbs at birth. I'm thankfull to God. Because I had miscarriages in the past. And I was perfectly healthy and young.

I had my first and only child in 2006 at 19.. I knew I was young and I wanted to dedicate my time and also growing up to her. She's my everything. So I got the mirena inserted in late Jan 2007 after I healed from a c-section. I had it in for the whole 5 years. Maybe two periods the whole time. Kidney, bladder, and yeast infections happened numberous times. But the Dr said those were yes inconvienent but normal. After I met my ex three years ago we decided to have another baby together. I waited though until it was 5 years. Got it taken out march 2012. But we tried and tried and nothing. I figured maybe it was him BC I've gotten pregnant before. I didn't know it could've been BC of the Mirena. Well it was a strain on our relationship and we decided to end things. After a year n a half I met the love of my life and we've decided after a year of being together to try to have another one. And its been 6 months and nothing. After reading all of these stories I now know its because of the mirena. And it honestly is not far BC I was being responsible and taking care of myself and not I'm infertile? Something has to be done!

I had the mirena put in in 2011 a few months after the birth of my FOURTH child. I kept it in for 3 years. My boyfriend and I decided recently that we wanted to have a child together. I got it removed june 2014. I never had a period or bled after the removal. I found out I was pregnant in august.. we were so happy. I miscarried on August 29th. It broke our hearts. So we tried again. I found out I was pregnant again just 3 weks ago. again we were overjoyed. I am sitting here typing this now while I am miscarrying right now.. I am glad I found this page. I had no idea why this was happening to me, I have four healthy children, had four healthy pregnancies. I now fear I am never going to be able to have a child with the love of my life that it took me 38 years to find.

I got mirena in May 2008 after the birth of my second son. I had 2 perfectly normal pregnancies before mirena and have 2 healthy boys. In May 2013 I had Mirena removed. In February of 2014 I got pregnant. I miscarried at 12 weeks but doctors said the fetus looked like it stop developing at 7 weeks. It was very emotionally devastating for me and I have been trying to figure out what went wrong ever since. a
After finding these posts all the stories sound just like mine and I believe now mirena is the cause of my miscarriage too.

Your medication is a must for any woman trying to get pregnant. I was devastated and so was my husband after being told by my fertility specialist at age 38 that I had no option but to consider adoption or donor eggs (according to my doctor I was out of eggs and gave me 4% chance of getting pregnant and a 2% chance of carrying a baby to full term). After much research and dozens of hours reading infertility related articles and posts online, I have found your website! I never believed in anything alternative to western medicine and thought all the other stuff like Chinese medicine was a hoax. But I was soon glad to be wrong as I followed your step. After one month of trying I became pregnant and had a beautiful healthy boy. Nine months after that I did everything in your medication again and after 2 months of trying I got pregnant again and gave birth to another perfect little boy. I would recommend anyone with an open mind to read your testimoney. It just might be the answer to your prayers. Thank you for everything you have done for me

I had the mirena for five year 3months after my first born in 2008. I had it remove in 2013, it took me 8month to conceive. Finally in March 2014 I found out I was pregnant and had a miscarriage at 7weeks in May 2014. In July 2014 found out I was pregnant again and now sep.2014 once again at 9weeks I'm having another miscarriage. The doctors keep telling me it's normal and that theirs nothing wrong with me. This had been very depressing for me. My fist pregnancy before the marine I was leading a very unhealthy life I found out I was pregnant at 16weeks and before that I was drinking, smoking and doing everything that puts a pregnant woman at risk and ofcouse the pregnancy was unplanned but had a healthy pregnancy and gave birth to a healthy baby boy with no complication. Since then I married a wonderful man and after 3yrs of marriage we dicided to have a baby. Since we planed it I had been taking good care of my self eating healthy working out no drugs no drinking taking vitamins. It's so depressing to know that this birth control has ruin my life. I pray to god he gives me the chance to conceive and be able to have at least one more baby. Thank you all for your stories it's help me atleast to know I'm not alone.

I had Mirena inserted in June 2009. After suffering from horrible cystic acne, debilitating back pain, depression, mood swings, diminished libido, and painful intercourse, I had my GYN remove my Mirena in August of 2011 so my husband I could TTC #2. After 7 months of TTC I conceived but then miscarried in March, 2012. We conceived again in November, 2012 but miscarried yet again in December, 2012. There was a yolk sac, but it was empty. Thankfully, we were able to conceive a third time in January/February, 2013 and we finally welcomed our daughter, our second child, in October, 2013. However, I had a very hard time enjoying that pregnancy becaused I was so freaked out that something would happen to her the entire time. Now, I just had a pap and abnormal cells were discovered in my cervix and I need to have a biopsy in 3 weeks. I have to say that Mirena is to blame, but that is my personal opinion.

After having two children from two straightforward pregnancies I had mirena fitted in April 2012 I had mirena removed in April 2013 due to pain and discomfort it caused me. I got pregnant August 2013 and suffered a miscarriage and then I fell pregnant again in February 2014 and had an ectopic and tube had ruptured which required emergency removal of my right tube. I completely blame mirena for this! I was fine before.

I can relate to alot if these women. I had my iud put in in 2009 and had it removed in February 2014 because it was almost lost we caught it in time. I found out I was pregnant in may 2014. Went to the dr for a 10 week check up and found out my baby's heart stopped and was not growing. The yoke sack has crystallizes and the growth and heart stopped around 7 to 8 weeks and I'm supposed to be 10 weeks. It's really hard never had this happen now I need a dnc done I hope I can have 1 more baby . I have 3 beautiful girls and 1 miscarriage about 8 years ago but nothing like this. I'll never do the IUD again.

I had the mirena implanted 6 weeks after my daughter was born. Never had any problems prior to that but after the one year mark of having it in I had a period that lasted for 21 days after numerous trips to the er for cramping they finally did a cat scan and saw that my iud had migrated they removed my iud and two days later after I spiked a fever of 104 and was in extreme pain they diagnosed me with pid and hospitalized me for 3 days. After all of that I started getting cysts on my ovaries and have been in and out of the hospital for cyst ruptures. This past month I have been in and out of the hospital for the cysts on on the 9th I went in and they determined a cyst the size of a lime had ruptured. So they sent me home with pain meds and gave me a bc pill they said should help reduce the amount of cysts. I ended up not getting my period took an at home test that came back positive and went in to the er they did an ultra sound and estimated me at 6 weeks but they cant locate the baby.I'm begging to believe that at 20 years old mirena was far more trouble than it was worth. As I sit here waiting to go back to the er for more blood work and a 3Rd ultra sound in 3 days to try and locate my baby.has this happened to anyone before that they couldn't locate a baby just a sac??

Mirena was in for 3 years. I always got a period on the mirena, a light one every month. One day I started bleeding heavily the bleeding lasted 14 days and stopped for two, after two days of no period I started bleeding heavily again, back pain was so severe I couldn't walk. I sat on the toilet about to cry when I looked down to see a small fetus!! I was horrified and freaked out, of course that's not a baby I thought!! But I sat and stared at it forever snapped some pictures and headed to the doctor..my tum was so soar when she was pushing on it!! She took out the IUD which was in my cervix by this time, took blood work and called later that afternoon saying my levels were at 100 and based on my picture said I was between 11 and 12 weeks when I passed this child. I'm going in every week for blood work, 2 ultra sounds, which now I have a big cyst on my ovary( never had these before) I am exhausted, physically and mentally. I have 3 healthy children so for that I am thankful. But I am pissed you guys.. I'm pissed this is happening to me right now.. I'm pissed this is all happening to you guys as well!! Prayers<3

We did all the test to make sure everything was fine... And it was she was perfect. After my dnc they did all the tests and nothing showed up wrong... Does anyone know if this iud can cause 2nd term miscarriage? Btw I am 6 weeks pg again... And worried.

I got a positive pregnancy test in Jan 2013 end having a miss carriage a couple of weeks later.. March 2013 I had another positive pregnancy but around the end of April 2013 I had bad bleeding and huge blood clots so I end up in the hospital getting a D/c. Now it March 30 2014 no period this month it's to the point where I'm back depressed in really don't want to know if I am cause I really think this Iud missed me up I was perfectly find before than with my baby girl now being 4 and I know my boyfriend wants one he can call his on. I really praying about cause in the long run I think this will be the cause of us ending what we had for almost 2 1/2 years this Merina has ruined my life!

I got my Mirena in 2002 after my 3rd child. Then in 2007 had it replace. I had a few side affect at the time that I never really made the connection with the IUD acne and back pain and facial hair but thought maybe it was just something that was just happening. Well anyway in November 2009 I had it remove because I was wanting another baby because of all the talk I've been reading on the Internet I decided to wait a year before we started trying again. Then in May we got pregnant but sadly at 10 weeks I found out the baby stop growing at 6 weeks and had to get a DNC. It took 6 months to get pregnant again then again at 5 weeks I had another miscarriage. Then the next month I got pregnant again everything seemed to be going perfect I had a normal pregnancy. Then she was born October 04 2012. At first everything seem perfect then she seem to be having breathing problems. They send her to a big hospital and they checked her blood and found she had a high amount of lactic acid. She lived to be only 10 days old. Out of all of the test they did on her they never found any underlined condition. We was heart broken but still wanted another baby so we ask if we can do some genetic testing to make sure it wouldn't happen again. But the doctor told he never seen anything like her condition before that it was probable just random. So 5 months later we got pregnant with our rainbow baby Isabella. But with Isabella we had all of the extra testing we could get the Harmony test all the extra blood test & ultrasounds, even did a heart echo. They thought for sure she was going to be healthy. She was born November 21 2013 and just as a precaution they was going to check her blood every 6 hrs after birth, 9 hours after she was born the doctors came in and broke my heart she too was born with this very rare condition that not even the Metabolic specialist of 30 years at Riley hospital had ever seen before. She lived to be only 36 days old. I had 3 healthy children before the Mirena then after I had 2 miscarriages and went on to having to babies born with some very rare condition that the doctors have never seen before. Then I met this women on Facebook who got pregnant on Mirena and her baby to was perfect in every way but her body produce high levels of lactic acid also she lost hers at 8 weeks. Her doctors told her that they've never seen anything like her child either. I found that awfully strange that we both had the Mirena and we both had a baby died of some kind of wired condition that doctors have never seen before.

i have 4 healthy previous pregnancy before Mirena so i wonder if Mirena is the cause of my miscarriage.

May I also point out the mirena Iud says if you get PID it can cause infertility and ectopic pregnancies not the mirena it's self I've never been diagnosed with PID lawyers should be able to take on these cases no problem I took a screen shot picture of this from the mirena website under possible side effects

I got the mirena after my 5th child had no complications with conceiving or carrying all full term of my babies so 6 weeks after having my daughter Chloe the dr. Convinced me to get the mirena Iud telling me how wonderful it was and if I ever wanted to have a baby I could just take it out after having a years worth of intense cramps and pain I had it removed and miscarriage after miscarriage I am convinced the Iud has created a problem making it impossible to carry a baby again I got pregnant in the end of July beginning of August had an ultrasound where they found a sac that measured 4 weeks had increasing levels but started having pools of blood and clots dr said I was having a miscarriage then my blood levels were still rising so I was then still pregnant continuos blood tests showed still rising but not as I should be after 3 weeks of bleeding and blood clots small and large I went to the er they said I was still rising but took an ultra sound was still measuring only a sac at 4 weeks but still found nothing inside no one could rule out ectopic pregnancy but couldn't locate this baby after removing several clots from inside me they said cervix was still closed so I went home n the next day I had blood work at the end of the week they said my blood test came back in the hundreds no d&c done or n e thing just left it at that no follow up but bleeding stopped n life moved on last Saturday I took an at home pregnancy test after 2 days late of my period had bad cramping when to the drs they didn't pick up on my test or enough levels in my blood but after a day of leaving the drs I started bleeding pools of blood and clots again just like my miscarriage a few months ago nothing like " my periods " they said it could be a real early miscarriage but said I don't need an appointment just keep an eye on it so I may go to the er again this is rediculous and I'm bound and determined to get pregnant again to prove this Iud has made it impossible to carry another child no one told me there was any problems with the Iud they gave me a pamphlet after putting it in me I would never recommend this device to anyone and I too feel we should have a law suit look at all the lives and body's this has damaged it should not be allowed if someone wanted infertility we could get our tubes cut and tied its sad I always wanted a big family and I would have rather of had ten kids than a life long problem I didn't sign up for I will do this again to open my drs eyes and bring attention to this issue with mirena I'm 26 good luck and my heart goes out to all other users of the mirena iuds if u haven't got one yet DONT DO IT 5 years could turn into a life time

When I had the mirena IUD, I suffered from all of the side effects. The cramping was the worst part. It was nothing but cramping for 3 weeks out of each month.

After a while, my body had rejected it, and it did come out on it's own. It has been out for almost a year and a half now and I have already had 3 miscarriages in that little time.

I too, had the mirena after my second child and I'm only 22. There is no reason for me to have had 3 miscarriages in a row, other than the mirena. This is some bad stuff.

I am currently miscarrying for the third time, and I do not plan on trying anymore because I really don't want to go through this again. It was physically and mentally painful. Two months ago, I had an 11 week missed miscarriage and the baby stopped developing at 8 weeks.

I got Mirena put in 6 weeks after my 2nd child was born in 2012. I got been overs September 23, 2013 because I was getting married 10/7/13 and we wanted to have a baby. His first. I got a positive pregnancy test on 10/25/13 had my first dr. Appointment last Monday and just went to the doctor today with abdominal pains and heavy bleeding. Along with passing baseball size blood clots which I've never done before. Bother previous pregnancies were healthy and no problems. They said that they were unable to locate the baby with the ultrasound so either I miscarried or I'm not far enough along and I was mistaken with my dates. But I know I wasn't. I know my last period was September 25th.... I'm reading all over how people can not have babies after Mirena. My husband and I really want another baby and I'm scared we won't be able too...

I had the mirena put in shortly after I had my son in February 2012. He was my third son. I did not suffer any complications with any of my pregnancies until Sept 2013. I had the mirena removed in May of this year because of all the side effects I was having. It started with insomnia around January. Followed with depression, massive headaches, bad acne, then hives. The hives started around February or March. Theyy wereIin the creases of my arms. Last about 10 days then go away. Each month until I had it removed the hives got worse. They were my final decision in getting it removed. Then the device gave me cervicitis. This was diagnosed at the removal appointment. September 2013 my cycle lasted 10 days. It's always only 7. I made an appointment to figure out why. My doc did a pregnancy test & it came up positive. Went for bloodwork and ultrasound the next day. Nothing was visible on ultrasound except the cyst on my ovary. HCG levels were low so 4 days later I had to repeat bloodwork. This time HCG levels were even lower. The nurse confirmed I miscarried. Mirena was a horrible decision.

I have had the mirena for 4 years after my second child. I had it taken out two years ago and have not been able to carry a pregnancy to full term. I have had three miscarriages and one was so awful. I am not using any kind of b/c and haven't been able to become a new mom again. My husband and I feel down and sad at times and wish we never made that decision of mirena in the beginning. I got the IUD taken out because it was giving me crazy headaches where the doctor had to give me Tordol through the IV. So here I am 2 years later and still trying to get pregnant. I don't know how many HPT I bought this far. I don't know if I should just give up.

I had the IUD placed after I had my little girl in 2009. My OBGYN told me this was the safest method to avoid pregnancy. In 2010 my husband and I decided it was time for our third. In Dec 2011 I was having abdominal pain so I made an appt and found out I was pregnant and it was ectopic. I had methotrexate to terminate. In May 2012 samething happened. I was out of work for about 6wks. Then again in march 2013. With the last one I had internal bleeding and had to have 6 bags of blood transfusion. Along with the removal of my left fallopian tube. I was hospitalized again in June due to a mass growing on my right ovary and tube. Hardest decision I ever had to make was terminating my pregnancies. This was heartbreaking for me and I'm still not over my loss. I can't have no more babies because they failed to inform of all these side affects. Had I known beforehand I wouldn't have gone ahead with the IUD. I only wanted it as a temporary measure. Before I had no problem getting pregnant. Let alone having complications with my pregnancies. Both of my children were born full term. I regret having used this method.

I received an Iud mirena about 11wks (5/2010)after giving birth to my second son. I had the IUD removed 18mos later (11/2011)because I started to shedding hair and had very visible bald spots on my scalp. I had additional minor side effects, all that were dismissed by my doctor as fragments of my imagination. I recently had a miscarriage at 7wks. I never had any issues with my previous pregnancies. After doing some research I've came across a lot of forums of women suffering from the same exact thing. I never want to experience having a miscarriage again. I am married to my children's father and we hoped to have additional children to expand our family. I do not think it is just a coincidence that current and previous mirena users are suffering from miscarriages. I did not sign up for a life long birth control. This surpassed a "side effect", this is a life effect. I do not want to keep trying to conceive and end up with heart break.

I had an IUD placed in 2006 after my third child. Then had to have another one placed in 2008 after an incomplete expulsion of my first. I had it removed Oct 27th 2009 to have another baby. Had a positive pregnancy test dec 31st 2009 and had to have emergency surgery jan 17 2010 for a ruptured ectopic, right tube had to be removed. I then miscarried in march 2010. Having three healthy children with no problems I know all this was due to the mirena. Thankfully we had another daughter born march 2011 but it took progesterone injections and a lot of precautions to keep her in utero until 37wks.

I had Mirena for 5 years, removed it May 2012. We got pregnant August 2012 and were so happy till late September 2012 when I started having pains and heavy bleeding. Dr could never locate baby and so October 2012 I had to have an injection to remove an Ectopic pregnancy. It was truly horrible and painful. Our next pregnancy was April 2013 and June 2013 I misscarried for unknown reasons. We have yet to get pregnant again, and Im nervous to even keep trying. My Dr said it wasn't the Mirena that could have done this, cause he highly recommends it to all his patients but Im not gonna sit there and argue with him and tell him I've read about this happening to women all around. Well, good luck to everyone who is trying just like we are and pray for the best. ?

I had my Mirena removed May 10th 2013. Waited till my cycle ended in June, got positive pregnancy test at Dr. office on July 12th. Miscarried on July 29th. I am so worried that it will happen again! I have two girls, both pregnancies where healthy with no complications, no previous losses before Mirena. I know there are lots of reasons for MC, but this is scary that so many women are left to deal with a loss. :(

I had mirena places a year after my second child in 2007. I had it the full five years. In those five years I had my hair fall out and ended up in the hospital with PID. I got it removed then six months later found out I was expecting. So excited, but at 8 weeks I lost my baby. Three months later Ifound out I was pregnant again. This time I was so scared then at 13 weeks I lost that baby. I was told by the doctors I can conceive a baby no problem but because of mirena my body stoped producing progesterone which is needed to keep the baby. I was basically told I will keep having miscarriages and I won't be able to carry a baby to full term. I am so heartbroken I am only 26 years old. It has put me in a horrible depression and put me in so Mich emotional and physical pain.

I had the Mirena shortly after my first child was born. I didn't like it so I had it removed after a year and a half. I since then had 3 more children. I don't see how it causes people to not have children. If you read on Mirena its only 99% effective just like birth control. Which is what I got pregnant on with my oldest. So should I sue the birth control company because I got pregnant no. People are sue happy.

I have a 7 year old daughter so I know I can carry babies. A year after my daughter I was pregnant and missarried at home in the toilet. I took fetus out of toilet and took to the hospital and they told me I miscarried. So because of that I understood that it could happen. Fast forward I got IUD , kept it for 5 years and took it out August 2012. I got pregnant somewhere between December 2012 and January 2013. My father in law passed February 6, 2013. On February 7th, The doctors told me I was having an abnormal pregnancy where I carry the hormone to having a baby but no baby. I had to go home incert 4 pills into my vagina and go through actual labor to have miscarridge at home. I am still dealing with the emotional wounds left from this. It is comforting to know that I am not alone but that does not chage the hurt and pain and suffering behind this.
I saw a commercial and thought I might call untill I spoke to several women at my daughters school whoexpereinced the same loss after the IUD. We have got to do something to make a difference and stick together!

Hi I'm 24 years of age and I recently got pregnant while on the mirena have been on it for three years, and sad to say I didn't k kw that I was pregnant until I start having the symtoms of pregnancy, anyway I just Lund out that I've been pregnant since feb 2013 n it's June, which I didn't make it for the first trimester and I was carrying a miscarriage for two months, n I'm very sad to say, I don't know what to do, im having a hard time with medical care and such which is stressing, n I feel like giving up, because today I still have the baby n womb inside of me n I feel like a mental break down with the lack of help... I blame the mirena for my miscarriage I feel so lost and sad, I have two young babies of my own 4 and 2, n I'm getting a lot of back pain, wish help would come soon. I feel your pain, they should do false advertisement if they aren't going to explain th serious side effects the mirena can do, if the did I would of never end got it inserted. Thanks

I came across this article when searching out answers to my anxiety about being pregnant after Mirena. I got Mirena approx. 10 weeks after the birth of my second child in July of 2010. I too was told by my Gyno that it was safe, effective and the right choice for me. Around Thanksgiving, that same year, I began to get flu-like symptoms. I was vomiting in the mornings, almost like morning sickness. I never again had a "full" period, just constant spotting. I was told that my body was just adjusting to the IUD and everything was fine. The vomiting and upset stomach went on for months, on and off. It was horrible for a few days, then it would go away for a few weeks. I visited my GP and he told me to see a GI Doctor, that I was showing signs of IBS. In April of 2011 I was having one of my "episodes" and the pain was so bad that I went to the ER. Again, I was told I was having Gastro issues and I was given numerous nausea & bowel cramping meds and sent home. The same scenario happened two more times, each ER visit had the same outcome. Finally, on the third trip to the GP, my husband got very frustrated and demanded I have a CAT scan. Two hours later, in June of 2011, there was my Mirena, embedded in the left side of my uterus. The following morning I had a D&C to remove the IUD. Besides the physical pain, I endured a ton of emotionally distress due to feeling crazy that every single Doctor I saw said the same thing, "The Mirena would not be making you sick." Well, it was. Now I am just about 8 weeks pregnant with my third child and I am starting to feel like something is off. I have an appointment later today to check... with a new Gyno of course! I am so scared that this Mirena has ruined my chances of having anymore children. Thanks for your story on Katie, although it doesn't ease my anxiety, it does help me realize I am not alone.

I had the modems inserted in august of 2010 and removed in January 2012. I had it removed because it caused me intense cramping, constant spotting in between periods and I would have a period every 2 weeks. I also was able to feel it if I moved wrong or sat with my legs bent to my chest it would pinch me. I got pregnant in July 2012 and miscarried at 11 weeks. I got pregnant again in March of 2013 and am currently going through another miscarraige at 10 weeks. I truly believe this is due to the mirena coil!
