$5 Million Settlement in Pollution Lawsuit

This is a settlement for the Environment Law lawsuit.

Harrisburg, PA: The operator of a power plant will pay $5 million to settle an environmental lawsuit alleging the plant discharged potentially toxic metals, polluting a river, and violated its permits. The proposed settlement must still be approved by a judge and the federal government. The lawsuit, filed in 2007, alleged that since 2005 the Conemaugh Generation Station violated the federal Clean Water Act almost every day. The plant reportedly discharged aluminum, boron, iron, manganese and selenium into the river.

A portion of the settlement will go to clean up the Conemaugh River watershed.
