City Taxes

Butte, MT: (Jan-08-08) The Internal Revenue Services brought a lawsuit against Butte-Silver Bow County, alleging that the city-county government failed to withhold enough taxes from employees' paychecks. The suit was filed following a seven-month audit, which revealed the discrepancies. As part of a settlement reached, Butte-Silver Bow agreed to pay $228,760 in back taxes and fines to resolve allegations. Records show that the federal agency originally was seeking more than $350,000. Butte-Silver Bow officials stated that the settlement will be submitted to the council of commissioners and Chief Executive Paul Babb shortly. [MONTANAS NEWS STATION: CITY TAXES]
