Perma-Fix

Dayton, OH: (Dec-19-07) The US Department of Justice and the US Environmental Protection Agency brought charges against a Perma-Fix Environmental Services Inc. subsidiary Perma-Fix of Dayton Inc., alleging that the facility had violations of the federal Clean Air Act. As part of a settlement reached, Perma-Fix of Dayton will pay a civil penalty of $360,000 and will spend no less than $562,000 for three environmental projects at the facility to achieve air emission controls that go above and beyond environmental regulations. Company spokespersons stated that the settlement was reached to avoid the risks and costs associated with protracted litigation. Records show that the Atlanta-based Perma-Fix earlier reached an agreement in principle to settle a citizen's suit component for $1.3 million. [YAHOO: PREMA-FIX VIOLATIONS]
