School Dirt

Eastchester, NY: (Dec-03-07) The Eastchester Union Free School District brought charges against Dirtman Enterprises and Anthony Adinolfi, a contractor, alleging that he dumped contaminated dirt in school athletic fields. Records show that Adinolfi pleaded guilty earlier in 2007, to using Eastchester High School and the Anne Hutchinson School as illegal dumps for construction debris. Sources close to the case stated that although Adinolfi dumped construction debris in the fields, the contaminants were no worse than ambient contaminants in the New York suburbs. Nonetheless, the district topped off the undesired fill with a foot of clean topsoil and sod. As part of a settlement reached, Adinolfi's insurance carrier will pay the district $600,000, resolving the dispute. [NEW YORK JOURNAL NEWS: SCHOOL DIRT]
