Misdiagnosed Appendicitis

Myrtle Beach, SC: (Nov-25-07) The widow of Willie Belton brought charges against Piedmont Medical Center, alleging that her 56-year-old husband died as a result of being misdiagnosed for his appendicitis. In the suit, the family claimed Belton, of Rock Hill, did not receive proper treatment when he went to the hospital in 2003. The suit accused the hospital, its parent company, a doctor, and a practice of medical malpractice. Records show that the hospital and its owner were dropped from the suit, which was finally settled by Dr. Craig Dates and York Emergency Physicians. As part of the settlement, the widow received a $400,000 payout. The settlement included no admission of liability and the defendant's legal counsel asserted that the doctor provided appropriate care in the case. [MYRTLE BEACH ONLINE: MISDIAGNOSED APPENDICITIS]

Felt a pop in my right lower quadrant went to the doctor and told him I think my appendix ruptured, he told me it was a groin injury. I lived for 5-6 weeks in pain thinking it was a groin injury. My appendix did rupture and I nearly lost my life.
