Fisherman Fraud

Homer, AK: (Sep-20-07) The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) brought charges against Fred Currier, a Homer man, alleging that he committed a fishing violation. The suit accused individual fishing quotas (IFQ) permit holder Fred Currier, of incorrectly reporting the area where his halibut IFQ was caught when he landed the fish in September 2006. Currier admitted the violation and reached a settlement with NOAA in which he agreed to pay a fine of $25,000. The administration agreed to suspend $10,000 of that on the condition that Currier has no further IFQ violations in the next four years. Further, as part of the settlement agreement, the $27,000 in proceeds from the halibut harvested was forfeited to the government. [KTUU NEWS: FISHERMAN FRAUD]
