Nevada Power Company

Las Vegas, NV: (Apr-03-07) The Nevada Division of Environmental Protection and the US Environmental Protection Agency filed charges against Nevada Power Company, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Sierra Pacific Resources, over long-standing environmental issues related to the Reid Gardner Generating Station in Southern Nevada. The suit alleged that Nevada Power was guilty of violations involving monitoring and record-keeping, and certain alleged emission excesses. In a settlement reached, Nevada Power will pay a $1.1 million fine for alleged violations and proceed with the previously approved plans to spend $84.2 million on upgrades to reduce emissions at the plant. Additionally, Nevada Power will fund more than $4 million in energy conservation projects for the Clark County School District over the next four year. [PR NEWSWIRE: EPA FINE]
