Corpus Christy County, TX

This is a settlement for the Commercial lawsuit.

Austin, TX: Corpus Christy county, TX, settled a lawsuit brought by Fulton Coastcon Construction that accused county officials of violating state law by not reading bid prices aloud in public before awarding a contract to Zachry Construction. The contract was for the Heritage Center arena, the $25 million second phase of the Richard M. Borchard Regional Fairgrounds. In the settlement, county officials admitted breaking the law, which voids the contract. The Heritage Center project will be resubmitted for bids within 30 days. The first-phase contract likely violated the same law, according to records obtained by the Caller-Times and interviews with county officials. Naismith Engineering of Corpus Christi has been awarded $7.3 million in engineering contracts relating to the fairgrounds. The county paid $275 an hour for legal services and paid $34,000 for Fulton's attorney's fees as part of the settlement. (Jan-27-07) [CALLER TIMES: CONSTRUCTION CONTRACT]
