PBS&J Corp.

Miami, FL: The US Department of Justice confirmed the allegations that PBS&J Corp. violated the False Claims Act between 1992 and 2005. The company's former employees embezzled more than $35 million from the firm and PBS&J submitted incorrect overhead costs to the government in connection with federal contracts.

Government officials claimed that more than a dozen federal agencies were affected by the inaccurate information. The construction company has paid a $6.4 million settlement to resolve allegations. PBS&J attorney said company officials were relieved the settlement was finalized and that there was no finding of wrongdoing by the company though former Chief Financial Officer William Scott DeLoach. Former colleagues Maria Garcia and Rosario Licata pleaded guilty and are awaiting sentencing for allegedly paying themselves millions of dollars out of a company medical benefits fund.
