Gateway to a Cure

St Louis, LA: St. Louis County Circuit Judge Steven Goldman decreed that St. Louis County-based charity, Gateway to a Cure, must pay more than $3.6 million in restitution and penalties for fraudulent raffles supposedly to help spinal cord injury research. He agreed with Missouri Attorney General's Office that Gateway engaged in unlawful methods, acts, uses and practices of deception. Judge Goldman also barred the charity from holding other raffles. Of the settlement amount, more than $2 million is to reimburse buyers of nearly 14,000 sweepstakes tickets for raffles in St. Charles County, Kansas City, Orlando, and elsewhere. $1.4 million is for civil penalties to the state of Louisiana and $208,000 to a fund for consumer education and enforcement.
