California State Department of Social Services

Los Angeles, CA: For over a decade, Donna and James Durando cared for six severely disabled adopted children. The Los Angeles County Department of Children and Family Service made an administrative ruling that denied retroactive benefits for the services the couple provided. The Durando's filed a lawsuit against the California State Department of Social Services alleging Antelope Valley County underpaid them for years. The department acknowledged it miscalculated foster and adoptive support payments, agreed to increase the payments, and will pay the Durandos a $200,000 settlement.
