Yonkers Raceway Corp.

New York, NY - New York state Attorney General Eliot Spitzer filed charges against the racetrack for allegedly flushing raw sewage into the Bronx River for more than 20 years. The Department of Environmental Conservation found that Yonkers Raceway had been flushing horse manure and human waste into local storm sewers, which flow directly into the river. Under the settlement, Yonkers Raceway will pay $6 million on projects to help clean the river, pay $2 million in civil penalties to New York State and donate $1 million to the Beczak Environmental Education Center in Yonkers.
