County-USC Medical Center

On April 6, 2003 Peter Ochoa was treated for a congenital blood vessel disorder in his brain at Northridge Hospital. On April 21, doctors found a brain aneurysm and Peter was moved to County-USC Medical Center the next day. On the morning of April 25, the 17-year-old boy complained of a headache and had a seizure. He had significant bleeding in his brain, which indicated that the aneurysm had ruptured. Peter had suffered a stroke and was left with permanent neurological injuries. A medical malpractice lawsuit was filed against the medical center for allegedly delaying surgery or an alternative treatment. The Board of Supervisors approved a $2.18 million settlement for the brain damaged young man. (Sep-05-06) [CBS NEWS]
