City of Boston

In 1989, Neil Miller was convicted and sentenced to jail for raping and robbing an Emerson College student by forcing his way into her apartment and threatening her with a screwdriver. The woman had a composite sketch drawn and one officer suggested it looked like Miller. Miller spent more then 10 years in prison, but was released in 2000 after DNA evidence proved his innocence. Miller filed a lawsuit against the city of Boston and prosecutors for allegedly pushing the victim to identify him as her attacker and ignored evidence that could have cleared him. The city has agreed to award Miller a $3.2 million settlement for wrongful imprisonment. (Mar-09-06) [BOSTON GLOBE]
