LAWSUITS NEWS & LEGAL INFORMATION

BP Products North America Inc.

On Labor Day weekend the company's 21 gas stations and 64 stations operated by its agents allegedly took advantage of the long weekend by raising gas prices. The state of New Jersey began investigating claims of consumer fraud and violations of corporate responsibility. According to the American Automobile Association, the state's gasoline prices hit record levels in the beginning of September at an average of $3.16 per gallon of regular gas. Prices were raised more than once every 24 hours and stations showed different prices at the pump compared to their posted prices. BP has agreed to pay the state a $315,000 fine; the money will be used to cover investigative costs and to fund consumer education programs. (Jan-12-06) [ASBURY PARK PRESS]
