The state of Rhode Island filed a lawsuit against the company six years ago for their role in manufacturing lead pigment paint. Over 36,000 children have unacceptably elevated levels of the metal in their systems. Although DuPont would not agree to a settlement, they have agreed to pay $12.5 million to several charities in order to buy peace in the case. DuPont will make donations to the Children's Health Forum, Brown University School of Medicine, and the Dana-Farber Brigham and Women's Cancer Center. (Jul-01-05) [NEWS INFERNO]
