Apartment Owner.

A lawsuit filed by officials from the city of Medford, Massachusets has been settled for $53,000. The suit was filed against the owner of a Medford apartment, Frederick Shaffer, to reimburse the city for costs associated with a fire in an illegal loft. This is the first time a city has filed a civil suit over alleged building code violations, and the officials have agreed to drop criminal charges which could have resulted in a year in prison.
