Plane Crash in Venezuela Kills Two

A plane crash in southeastern Venezuela has killed at least two people, and reports indicate that many more were hospitalized with injuries.

On Monday morning the ATR42 aircraft belonging to the government-owned Conviasa airline apparently "tumbled into some power lines" before falling to the ground and exploding, eyewitness Ivan Maradey told CNN.com. The plane had reportedly taken off only 12 minutes before. It went down about six miles from the airport in Guayana in an industrial junkyard.

So far the exact number of people on board has not been confirmed, although reports indicate there were 51 people altogether - 47 passengers and four crew.

Yanitza Rodriguez, director of the Hospital Uyapar told CNN that that 23 people have been hospitalized with injuries. The two people who died were among those 23 people. A further 21 people were being treated, she said.
