A small plane crash in western Virginia yesterday killed the pilot and seriously injured the passenger. Peter Sheeran, the 57-year old pilot, and John Whitmer, the passenger, both from Charlottesville, were on their way home when the crash occurred.

The single engine plane flew into the side a UPS freight building in Virginia shortly after taking off from Roanoke Regional airport at around 1 pm on Tuesday afternoon. Apparently, the plane hit some nearby power lines before crashing into the building. No one was reported injured in the UPS offices.

According to Jennifer Conley Sexton, an airport spokesperson, Sheeran reported a problem with the 1985 Piper PA-46 plane to air traffic control shortly before the crash.
