A small plane crash that killed the pilot and injured the passenger is under investigation this week. The crash occurred Saturday, in West Milford, about a half mile from Greenwood Lake Airport.

The Cessna 172 crashed at about noon on Saturday. Pilot Arthur Leidenfrost, 61, was pronounced dead at the scene. His passenger, Steven Goldstein, 49, was taken to Morristown Memorial Hospital in critical condition.

The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating the crash. Preliminary reports indicate that Leidenfrost, who was a flight instructor, picked the plane up from Miller Airport in Berkeley Township and flew it to Greenwood Lake Airport, where he collected Steven Goldstein, also a licensed pilot. They crashed shortly after take-off from Greenwood Lake Airport.

The NTSB would not comment on the possible cause of the crash, and said a probable cause report would be released within 12 to 18 months.
