Eight Americans and 3 Canadians are dead after the bus they were riding in was hit by a tractor-trailer on a highway in outside Saltillo, in Northern Mexico. Reportedly, another 11 people are injured.

The bus accident happened Monday morning, but details remain scarce. According to media reports, the bus was en route from McAllen, Texas to Zacatecas, a province in Northern Mexico, and was carrying 19 Americans. The driver of the tractor trailer reportedly lost control of the vehicle, swerved into the lane the bus was traveling in, before slamming into the bus. The bus driver is among the dead, and the truck driver is injured.

Reportedly, most of the people on the bus were retirees, in their mid 50s to 60s. One of the people killed was a 56-year old middle-school reading teacher from Brownsville, Texas, Ana Maria Bujanos. Her husband found out about his wife's death from a friend Tuesday morning, after he had heard Ana's name mentioned on the radio. A representative from the US Consulate also called Ana's husband, confirming her death. Wednesday would have been their 33rd wedding anniversary.

An investigation into the crash is underway, and involves the U.S. Department of Transportation's Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, and both the Mexican State and local Mexican police.
