Plane Crashes into Hudson River

US Airways Flight 1549 taking off from New York's La Guardia Airport en route to Charlotte, NC, has crashed into the Hudson river. Rescue efforts are underway, with local ferries and marine traffic helping remove people from the sinking wreckage.

Although the cause is currently unknown, one theory is that the Airbus A320 encountered a flock of birds which disabled both engines.

Details about the condition of the 146 passengers and 5 crew are pending.
