Crash of Continental Flight 1404 Probed

NTSB Investigators in Denver

Investigators from the National Transportation Safety Board were sent to Denver over the weekend to investigate the crash of Continental's flight 1404 at Denver airport on Saturday.

The crash, which caused 115 passengers and crew to flee the burning wreckage through emergency exists, occurred following an aborted take-off.

What is known so far is that the plane skidded off course about 2,000 feet from the end of the runway, and apparently did not become airborne.

The cockpit data recorders have been recovered and sent for analysis. According to the Federal Aviation Authority, the pilots both have clean safety records.
