Far East Brokers and Consultants, Inc. Announces Safety Warning for 48,000 Jack 'O Lantern Bucket Candle Holders

On October 19, 2005, Far East Brokers and Consultants, Inc. of Jacksonville, Florida announced a warning to consumers about 48,000 Jack 'O Lantern Bucket Candle Holders containing eight tea lights. The decoration is intended to be used with only one candle at a time and if all eight candles are ignited simultaneously, there is serious potential for the generation of too much heat and poses a fire hazard to consumers.

The firm has received three reports of fires when consumers lit the eight candles in the bottom of the bucket decoration. The reports include damage to carpets and a table, other minor property damage and one case with a second-degree burn.

The Jack 'O Lantern buckets are tea light candleholders sold in three colors: orange, cream and black. The buckets are about 6.25 inches high and about 7 inches in diameter at the top. They have item number 14609-00 or 14609-02 written on a sticker located on the bottom of the buckets.

Grocery and discount stores nationwide have been selling these Halloween decorations beginning in July 2005 for between $2 and $3 each.

Consumers with these decorations are urged to use only a single candle at a time. Also, be sure that the wick of the tea light is trimmed according to the instructions on the bottom of the bucket, and to follow all other burning instructions.

I purchased a disposable grill from Publix made by Far East Brokers. We did everything correctly and placed grill on stand on our picnic table (as in the picture). We used it cooked our food and left the coals to go out as any other grill. There are no warnings or directions on the label. The next morning I went outside and the grill had burned through my picnic table and the grass was still burning. I ran out grqbbed the water hose and put it out. It was close to my mobil home and thank goodness did not burn down my home with myself a friend, children and my pets. I did take pictures. I called the company to let them know so future uses could not more serious damage for someone else and, it seemed they were quick to try to keep me quite and wanted the grill. I explained that I wanted to talk to someone first.
