Club Car Inc. Announces Recall of over 70,000 Golf Cars (Carts)

On July 5, 2005 Club Car Inc. of Augusta, Georgia issued a voluntary recall of 71,700 Golf Cars or Golf Carts as they are called by many users.

Specifically, the recall affects the "Precedent" and "Precedent Champion" models of the carts, the recall based on reports of the accelerator pedal sticking temporarily when pressed down, resulting in the risk of injury to the consumer and passenger(s) in the cart at the time it malfunctions. The Cart can not only stick on acceleration, but there have also been reports that the braking mechanism failed as well, further increasing the risk of bodily harm.

Club Car Inc. has received two reports of this dangerous acceleration issue with these model golf cars or golf carts, one of which resulted in multiple "minor" injuries according to the manufacturer.

The Precedent and Precedent Champion branded golf cars are marked with the Precedent name on the steering wheel. The affected vehicles for this recall have serial number prefixes beginning with the two-letter combination CE, CF, PE, PF, PQ or PR. The serial number is located in the dash compartment on the passenger side of the car.

These Golf Carts were sold through Club Car authorized dealers throughout the United States from October 20003 through June 2005 at an average cost of between $3000 and $4000 each.

Consumers are urged to immediately stop using these golf cars/carts and contact the manufacturer regarding repair or parts replacement.
