VOLKSWAGEN OF AMERICA, INC. Announces recall of nearly 40,000 newly sold 2005 Volkswagen Jettas due to serious fire hazard.

On June 28th, 2005, Volkswagen of America Inc., announced a recall of nearly 40,000 Volkswagen Jettas for the model year 2005. Volkswagen has received reports certain vehicles equipped with the 2.5 litre gasoline engine there is a fuel supply line clamp that may not be positioned properly and can result in a fuel leak, posing a serious fire hazard to drivers and passengers. On June 28th, 2005, Volkswagen of America Inc., announced a recall of nearly 40,000 Volkswagen Jettas for the model year 2005. Volkswagen has received reports certain vehicles equipped with the 2.5 litre gasoline engine there is a fuel supply line clamp that may not be positioned properly and can result in a fuel leak, posing a serious fire hazard to drivers and passengers.

Such fuel leakage, in the presence of an ignition source like a hot engine can result in a serious fire.

Owners of this model year Jetta with the 2.5L engine are urged to contact their Volkswagen dealer to arrange for an inspection to be made to determine if a free repair/replacement is required to alleviate the potential problem, to be done at no cost to the consumer. The recall is expected to begin in July 2005.

The roof and dashboard of my 2005 Jetta wiring began smoking with toxic smoke and starting to catch on fire. I was told the wiring from front to back had gotten so hot it began to melt and catch fire. Has anyone had this problem? I don't know what to do but the car is not safe.
