Radio Shack Recalls about 1 Million Video Head Cleaners

On May 11, 2005 Radio Shack of Fort Worth, Texas announced the recall of about one million (1,000,000) Wet system Video Head Cleaners due to the fact that the solution in the bottle contained with the kit is labeled as containing Isopropyl alcohol. In fact, they contain Methanol, which is far more toxic and dangerous than Isopropyl alcohol.

In addition, there are no warnings on the labeling nor is the package child resistant as required by Federal Law.

Radio Shack has received reports of 39 children "accessing" this product through Poison Control Center reporting. No injuries or illness has been reported.

This product, manufactured in China, was sold via Radio Shack Stores and the Radio Shack website from December 1995 through January 2005 at a retail cost of about $13. Consumers should immediately place this product out of the reach of children, and return it to the nearest Radio Shack store for a full refund, or dispose of the bottle's fluid contents in accordance with State and local requirements. Many government agencies and municipalities consider methanol an extremely hazardous substance (HazMat).
