NBTY Inc. Announces Recall of Nature's Bounty and Natural Wealth Brand Multivitamins

NBTY of Bohemia, New York announced on July 12th, that they were voluntarily recalling about 12,000 bottles of their Nature's Bounty and Natural Wealth branded multivitamins. The vitamins contain Iron, yet they lack the child resistant packaging which is required by Federal Law. Iron in adult dosed vitamins can cause serious injury or death to a child.

NBTY says no injuries have been reported, that the recall is based solely on the discovery that the vitamin bottles were not child resistant as required by law.

The Nature's Bounty and Natural Wealth brand multivitamins have lot number 60835-06 written on the label. The recalled vitamins were sold in containers of 100 caplets. The containers are both clear with white caps. They are labeled "Nature's Bounty Multi-Day Multivitamin Plus Iron" or "Natural Wealth Daily Vitamin Plus Iron."

Manufactured in the United States, the vitamins were sold from July 2004 though March 2005, at a typical price of about $4 per bottle. These vitamins were sold nationally through various drug and grocery stores, as well as independent distributors.

Consumers should stop using recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed. Consumers should keep this product out of the reach of children and return it to the store where it was purchased or contact NBTY for information on receiving a refund or replacement.
