BJ Alan Co. Announces Recall of "Blaster Balls" Fireworks
On July 13th, the BJ Alan Co. of Youngstown, Ohio announced a recall of about 6,600 "Blaster Balls" fireworks. It was discovered that if the two balls strike each other they can produce a spark which can cause them to go on fire, resulting in a fire hazard to consumers.
BJ Alan Co., has stated that they received three reports of such incidents with the fireworks, one resulting in minor burns to the fingers.
The product is composed of two hard balls that meant to produce a snapping or popping sound when hit together. Each package contains a pair of blaster balls that are about 1.25-inches in diameter and were sold in assorted colors. They were sold in a blister pack that measured about 6.75-inches by 5-inches, with a UPC number located on the pack of package reading 3826959035.
Manufactured in China, the fireworks were sold throughout the US from May 2004 through June 2005 for about $3 per package. They were sold from fireworks stands and firework stores almost if not exclusively.
Consumers should immediately stop using the product and contact BJ Alan Co. for a replacement product.
