Toyota Halts Sales of Lexus GX460

. By
div itemprop="articleBody" class="article">Detroit, MNBased on a rare "don't buy" rating issued on April 13th, 2010, by the magazine Consumer Reports, Toyota has announced it will voluntarily suspend sales of the 2010 Lexus GX 460 sport utility vehicle in the US and Canada. The report allegedly states the vehicle has a dangerous handling problem that could lead to serious injury or death.

The Consumer Reports recommendation is based on an allegedly faulty electronic stabilizer control system (ESC), which can cause the SUV to rollover potential after going into a sideways skid. The ESC system is meant to prevent a skid that could result in the vehicle rolling over. In testing, Consumer Reports found that the ESC didn't kick in until the vehicle was already well into a sideways skid.

Toyota announced on April 13th that it plans to try and duplicate the Consumer Reports test on the GX460, and that they are taking the problem "very seriously and are determined to identify and correct the issue Consumer Reports identified."
