Diabetics with broken hearts may want to avoid Avandia

. By
Sydney, AustraliaA new study has found that a person suffering from a broken heart may have an increased risk of heart attack, which suggests those in that situation may want to use caution when considering the use of a drug like Avandia.

Broken HeartedThe finding comes from Australian researchers who examined 160 people and found that those who recently experienced a death of a loved one were six times more likely to suffer from a heart attack when compared with a control group.

"We found higher blood pressure, increased heart rate and changes to the immune system and clotting that would increase the risk of heart attack," lead researcher Thomas Buckley told Agence France Presse.

This study may be particularly important for those living with type 2 diabetes and looking for medication. There have been recent reports of the diabetic drug Avandia increasing the risk of heart attacks among those who took the medication for their condition.

A recent study that was published last month in the British Medical Journal found Avandia had a higher risk of heart failure and death when compared to other similar drugs.ADNFCR-2533-ID-19373645-ADNFCR
