Onyx Waste Services agrees to pay $650,000 in wrongful death lawsuit.

Chicago, IL: (May-28-08) The family of Mary Danielson, a Waukegan woman, brought a wrongful death lawsuit against Onyx Waste Services, after a recycling truck struck and killed her in 2004. Records of the incident show that Danielson, 59, of the 1200 block of Westmoreland Avenue, was run over by the truck in front of her home on Mar. 24, 2004. The family said that the incident took place as Danielson was crossing Westmoreland when the truck backed over her. She used to normally walk to Daniel Webster Junior High School where she was a cafeteria employee. Medical reports reveal that the death was instantaneous.

Court records stated that the Lake County Coroner's Office ruled Danielson died from multiple traumatic injuries. It was also determined poor weather conditions that day might have contributed to the accident. The driver of the Onyx Waste Services truck, Alonzo Abron, 45, of Waukegan, was charged with leaving the scene of a fatal accident. As part of a settlement reached in the wrongful death lawsuit, Onyx Waste Services agreed to a $650,000 payout to resolve allegations.
