American State Bank

This is a settlement for the Discrimination lawsuit.

Lubbock, TX: (May-24-08) The Department of Labor brought a lawsuit against the American State Bank, alleging that it engaged in hiring discrimination against minority applicants during a specific two year period. The suit was filed after the Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP), investigated the bank's hiring practices that revealed the discrimination. Sources stated that the discrimination took place for office and clerical positions in the bank's Lubbock branches during 2001 and 2002. OFCCP officials stated that the investigation indicated that there was a statistical shortfall in hiring of minority applicants for office and clerical positions. American State Bank denied the allegations and refuted the findings of OFCCP's analysis. It denied especially considering that no employee, applicant, or any other person actually complained of discrimination at the bank. As part of a settlement reached, American State Bank has agreed to pay $225,000 to resolve the hiring discrimination allegations. [KCBD: American State Bank Settles Lawsuit Alleging Discrimination]
